Priscilla G. On Advocating For Yourself and Your Fertility

By: Priscilla Goddard, Founder of Heirloom Fertility

To the women sitting in the doctor’s office being told everything is normal or unexplainable: You know in your heart there’s a missing puzzle piece, but the results (that your doctor is telling you) say otherwise. Why am I not pregnant then, you ask yourself? This makes no sense.

Let me back up a bit and say I believe in Western medicine and am truly thankful for it, however sometimes you need to dig deeper. Look at things not as symptoms, but what is causing those symptoms. You are not one-size-fits-all, you are a unique individual that needs a hands-and-heart kind of approach. We are living in an incredible time for women where we are really starting to be heard. That’s why it’s so important to be an advocate for yourself. If something feels off, listen to that intuition - she’s guiding you.

Being an advocate for your health is one of the most important things you can do now for your future self. Believe in what you are feeling.

What My Story Taught Me

Hi I’m Priscilla - A Women’s Health and Fertility Coach and Owner of Heirloom Fertility. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2015, but this diagnosis did not come easy. After trying to conceive for a year I went to my OBGYN. “It’s simple,” he said, “here’s some clomid.” I was shocked...  “So you’re telling me this pill is the answer to all these issues I’m having?” My gut said nope you’re wrong, but I wouldn’t have an ultrasound if I didn’t take the clomid. So I plotted out a plan.

I got the clomid and scheduled my ultrasound appointment. However, I didn’t take it. I wanted to see what my ovaries looked like normally before I went any further. Needless to say my doctor wasn’t pleased when he did the ultrasound. He immediately knew I hadn’t taken the drug. I apologized but I told him it was very important to me to see what was happening first. With that ultrasound and blood work to confirm, I walked away with a diagnosis of PCOS. I thought, okay, now I have somewhere to start. With tears rolling down my face I was still relieved to have a place to start from.

I set out on a journey to reinvent myself and my health. After a miscarriage in 2016, I started over once again. I took a year off from trying for a baby and focused on education, physical and mental health. And it is because of that, that I write this with my career title and as a mother of a beautiful baby boy born in April 2019. A four year journey that came with a ton of heartache but also a new found strength that I didn’t even know I had. Now my passion is to do the same for as many women as I can. I believe we have the power to start over and heal our bodies naturally.

Learning About (And Trusting) Your Body

This is why I teamed up with OvuSense. This monitor is by far the best there is. Trust me I have them all! This was the one that kept me not only on track with my ovulation but each and every BBT vaginally. Vaginally? I get asked all the time. Yep, that’s where everything else goes right? It’s the most accurate way to get the readings and Ovusense is spot on!

So in closing - You my dear are a powerful woman. Do not let anyone stand in your way of what you feel in your heart. You can and you will succeed. Keep going, keep advocating for you and for the future mama you will be. All my love to each and every one of you.
