PCOS Diva

  • Megan's fertility story

Hello!  My name is Megan, and I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 20.  Thanks to OvuSense, PCOS Diva Jumpstart Program and chiropractic help from my Doctor, I'm now pregnant with my first baby correlating exactly when OvuSense told me I had ovulated!

My cycles used to be regular when first started getting my period in middle school.  However, once I hit high school, they became irregular.  Later on, when my husband and I wanted to start having kids, we first tried to induce ovulation with Clomid as prescribed by my doctor but, I did not ovulate according to the blood tests.  The same results came back when we tried Femara and an HCG trigger shot. All of these drugs made me feel very ill, and I believe contributed to weight gain and depression. My next step was to see a specialist; but, knowing that they would just include more drugs and shots, we decided to try some natural approaches.

  • What is PCOS and what can you do about it?

By Kate Davies, RN, BSc(Hons), FP Cert - Fertility Nurse

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome can be divided into two distinct groups: Polycystic Ovaries (PCO) and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

    What is PCO?

Women diagnosed with PCO will have many cysts on their ovaries. However, they will not have the severity of cysts or the hormonal imbalance and symptoms seen in women with PCOS. Therefore women with PCO are less likely to have problems conceiving than women diagnosed with PCOS.

    What is PCOS?

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is unfortunately the cause of fertility problems in many women. This debilitating condition is often not diagnosed until a woman is unsuccessful in conceiving.PCOS is accompanied by a hormonal imbalance which makes it more difficult for eggs to mature adequately and be released at the time of ovulation. In many women with PCOS their condition is complicated further with insulin resistance.

It is believed to effect 5-10% of women in both the UK and US. PCOS is a chronic condition where the ovaries develop many tiny cysts caused by egg follicles that have not been able to develop as they should.

  • Amy's story

Diagnosed with PCOS at 19 years, now baby number 1 with OvuSense

My name is Amy and I just wanted to share some good news! I have PCOS and I managed to get pregnant after using OvuSense for 3 months. Here's my story.... I was diagnosed at the age of 19 with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). My doctor at the time actually told me that my chances of getting pregnant were pretty low with PCOS. I knew I wanted to be a mother one day so, as you can imagine, I was completely devastated by this news. Since being diagnosed, I have been on the drug, Metformin to try and help my symptoms. My partner and I have been together 7 years. He was my first crush as a teenager but, as he's 10 years older than me, we didn’t start dating until I was 23yrs (and he was 33yrs) and we have been together ever since! In 2014, I had a milestone birthday of turning 30yrs, and he turned 40, and we also managed to also conceive in 2014, so it has been a pretty big year for us! My partner and I knew we wanted a family as neither of us have children.
